Older adults face unique experiences and challenges, which may include physical, cognitive, emotional and/or spiritual changes. Older adulthood requires adapting to change, coping with loss, finding resolution with past events and relationships, and coming to terms with mortality. It is frequently a time to look for new ways to connect with others, retain vitality, contribute meaningfully, experience joy and pleasure, and share wisdom.
Engaging in psychotherapy and art therapy can be helpful in working through experiences, dealing with loss and discovering new forms of self-expression. This process can facilitate development of a greater acceptance of oneself, connection to one's own thoughts, feelings and experiences, and sense of satisfaction.
